Introduction to PULP and Caveats
(First posted to web on November 11, 1998.  Uh...not updated in 10 years)

Well, it turns out that I have received about 5000 hits to www.nsxfiles.com since I updated the site a month ago with stories about the LA Street Race, Buttonwillow Enduro, Virginia City Hill Climb, and Brainerd International Raceway.   I figure that this means there are a LOT of you out there that got LOTS of time on your hands.   So I decided to try my hand at writing a column about "Stuff".  Who knows, maybe some conglomerate will throw money at me for writing about Stuff, like FOX and AOL did for Matt Drudge.  Or maybe I can generate 5000 hits a day instead of 5000 a month, and then figure out how to make some money with those irritating advertising banners like you see on the the big commercial web sites and porno pages(not that I have ever looked at a porno page).  Then I can take that advertising money, and spend it on more go-fast parts for my car.....

Lately, I have surfed a lot of the discussion bulletin boards at websites like msnbc.com, news.com, cnn.com, etc. I have been pretty impressed(depressed? Unimpressed?) at the really dumb remarks that people post to voice their opinions on politics, the stock market, the DOJ vs. Microsoft. In any event, it seems like there are a lot of really stupid people in the world. So, I have decided to write my own commentary column and post it on my website, and called this section of the website "PULP". It reflects only my opinion on stuff that matters, stuff that sucks, stuff that doesn't suck.  The formatting for this part of the website does suck, but I haven't figured out how to best format it yet.

So let’s start with my commentary on:

But, before we start on that, you gotta read the Caveats(or disclaimers, or whatever you want to call it)

Some of the above topics(Microsoft and The Election)  above will probably generate a lot of "hate mail" back to me, so let me state the following caveats up front:
Caveat #1
I probably won’t reply to your email unless your email back to me is:

    Intelligent, logical, coherent
             OR
Corrects some facts that I have reported that are not correct.

Most of the facts I have gathered from reading other articles (newspaper, web, magazines, etc) which of course, could be wrong.
So, if your email back to me is stuff like, "You suck, you are wrong", but don’t state why I suck or am wrong in a logical, coherent matter, don’t expect a reply back, as I ain’t gonna waste my time or Internet bandwidth. I see what some of you guys write on other discussion bulletin boards, and you are all mainly a bunch of dumb asses. An example of stuff I have seen on bulletin boards from you "experts" out there:

"Microsoft stock is at 91, I am going to short it and make a fortune, cause it is going to crash because of the DOJ lawsuit".

Humm…that’s funny, the stock is now at $110.(note:  January 8, 1999 - now it is at $150.  Note:  August 15, 1999.  Stock split, now at $84, equivalent of $168 pre-split.  Note: January 1, 2000, stock is now $117, equivalent of $234 pre-split.) Me thinks your broker is probably calling you and asking for additional cash to backup your margin call because of that incredibly stupid decision to short Bill Gates and his army of really smart people that work 70-100 hour work weeks.

Caveat #2
It’s a free country. If you don’t like my opinion, don’t read it, and go put up you own damn website and post your own thoughts.  I will not put up a bulletin board for people to post their comments to this website, because like I said before, most of you that post to bulletin boards are IDIOTS.  But if you happen to send me something incredibly insightful, I might post part of that email on the website.   Likewise, if you send me something incredibly stupid, I will also post that just to show how dumb you are, and everyone that reads this web page can laugh along me at what a loser you are.

Caveat #3
I am not a current employee of Microsoft, so my opinions on the DOJ are strictly my own based on observations and conclusions that I think any intelligent, logical, coherent person would also come to if they look at the facts and not all the bullshit that lawyers, political columnists, and asinine non-technical reporters are saying in the press.

Now that you have read the full disclaimer, pick your article to read!

Oh, and by the way, I subscribe to some of those "subscription services", where they send out an email when they have new stuff on their site.  But their content usually sucks.  So I might as well experiment and do the same thing.  If you want to get on my mailing list, you can do the following:

1.  If you want to be alerted via email when there has been a significant amount of new stuff added to "PULP"(non-NSX stuff), send me an email with the following in the subject line:  SUBSCRIBE PULP to dougha@msn.com.

2.  If you want to be alerted via email when there has been a significant amount of new stuff added to "NSX-Files" about NSX stuff, send me an email with the following in the subject line:  SUBSCRIBE NSX-Files to dougha@msn.com

Yeah, I know, I should automate this process and connect it to a list server, but I am betting that there are NOT a lot of you that really want email notifications about this website, that you really have better things to do with you life.......

READER RESPONSES:

Okay, I got my third reader response(other two responses are on DOJ Page).   I have noticed that 99% of people that post to bulletin boards are men.  I am still waiting for my first readers response from a babette who can enlighten us with some knowledge.  :-)  C'mon, I know you are out there....

koobreez@hotmail.com mentions stuff about Stupid People which I thought was very  insightful.  Part of his response is below:

Just to clarify the word 'stupid', let me quote from the infamous website
http://www.doomed.com/stupids/stupids_1.htm The History of stupid people.

"What largely separates the stupid people from the others groups is
their social interaction. Unlike fools, idiots, and morons, stupid people
are highly social creatures that tend to validate each other's views and
beliefs. This can lead to what scholars call a "group delusion."
It is
believed that these delusions are the glue that have bound stupid people
everywhere together over the centuries."

I think this will help you understand why you see so many stupid remarks
and/or comments on public survey websites such as MSNBC, CNN, NEWS etc..
Stupid people congregate and support each others stupid views, therefore
when one stupid person makes a stupid comment or suggestion on a website,
the entire worldwide crew of stupid people come out to support their stupid
brothers and sisters.  The intelligent people of the world avoid them and
refuse to interact with them whether electronically or IRL.

Don't let the stupid people of the world discourage you.  There's still 20%
of the population out there that you can effectively interact and socialize
with.  Here's some recommended reading that I've found useful and
enlightening on the subject:

http://www.doomed.com/index.htm
http://www.doomed.com/sanity/sanity_1.htm
http://www.doomed.com/news/nc_top.htm

And as my late Uncle use to tell me:  "Drive that shit the way it was meant
to be driven..."

I especially like the comment about "group delusion".  Perhaps this is what possessed the Republicans, the DOJ/Monopoly geeks, the Java Idiots, and the Anti-Microsoft bozos to be so far off from reality.  I guess only time will tell if their conclusions continue to totally wrong.
